Just search for water leak in boot/trunk. For me I had multiple leaks in the mk2. Just very poor design from Ford. Unfortunately there’s no quick and easy fix. Here were all the places I had to fix: Water was getting in behind the lights. Use silicone sealant to seal around all the holes in the frame under the lights.
Just had a look at the specs and it says - Low current draw of:~300mA input to the inverter at 12V DC ~5.0mA output at 680v per tube. So if it's 680V pertube I won't be able to lengthen it with 12v cable like the one you showed earlier, but to me it seems abit high 680v per tube.
