LOL, that was an interesting night. Locked out of the car at a gas station at 2:00 a.m. in the middle of nowhere with the car running. I still have no clue how that was even possible. If it happens again I'll throw gas on the car and let the fire dept and insurance company deal with it. I'll just walk away and take a taxi home. No worries.

It could be going through an idle relearn from the battery going dead. When I would change the battery in my 2005 Mazda 3, it always ran through an idle relearn process where the idle would jump like this and would even come close to stalling. A couple of drives and it all went back to normal.
Switch the ignition off and close all of the doors and the liftgate. Open the driver's door. Within 30 seconds of opening the driver's door, press and hold the LOCK button on the key for 5 seconds or longer. All of the doors and the liftgate lock and the beep sound activates at the currently set volume.
